I woke up this morning to mi madre playing meringue music in the kitchen. It made me smile. Sure enough, when I came out of my room she was dancing all through the kitchen while she made breakfast. Love. We had tortillas with natilla and coffee for breakfast. After we ate mis padres loaded up the car with clothes they had collected from the community to go give clothes to the needy. Could they be any more awesome? (The correct response is no, they could not.)

After the padres peaced out Kevin and Keilor started playing soccer on the PS2 and Marta cleaned the kitchen. Kevin and Keilor are ballers at this PS2 game. They play in marathon sessions. They should be professional PS2 soccer players. I showered, dressed, and told them I was going up to the Ecolodge to call my mom. So I hiked up the hill that I have come to know all too well and had to practically throw my body into the wind to keep from flying away. The wind is out of control. There were no clouds, though, so the view was unbelievably gorgeous and gave me an excuse to stop every so often and catch my breath. When I got to campus, I ran into Lucas on his motorcycle. He was like "I thought you left!" I told him no, that I'm staying with Marielos and Olivier for a few days. He seemed pleased with the news and said "okay, then I can say 'hasta luego' and I said 'claro' because I am tica. Then I found Tess and her sister up by the comedor. Last night they went to Bar Amigo and apparently Lucas was asking about me.. Yikes. He thinks I'm really pura vida. Go me?

The wifi is finally working again on campus. Yay. I spent an hour Skyping with the gringo madre and stressing about her trip here. Good times. One of the girls from the other group on campus friended me on Facebook. I haven't talked to her much at all. In fact, she was decidedly my least favorite because she's whiny and all-around unpleasant. But I accepted her friend request anyways because I didn't want to be mean. Then I walked into the library to talk to Tess and the girl who sucks was sitting there. I talked to Tess for a minute, then went back to my computer to find that the girl had sent me a message on Facebook chat saying "so are you back in the states now?" Ew. I knew she sucked. Why do I doubt myself? When have I ever been wrong in life? Lesson learned. And you best believe the girl who sucks has been removed from my friends.

I walked back to mi casa just before lunch and my brothers were still in their pajamas in marathon mode with the PS2. I don't know where Marta went but she was MIA all afternoon. For lunch Kevin made his delicious spaghetti. It was better than ever. He gave me a hard time for not eating enough. I am used to receiving a hard time for everything now. I love my brothers.

After lunch the boys played more soccer and I laughed at them and cheered on Keilor because Kevin's ego is ginormous. Kevin had mentioned that he needed internet today, so I told him that the internet was working at the Ecolodge. So they wrapped up the marathon and eventually the three of us made it out the door to walk over to the Ecolodge so Kevin could do his school project. I felt so incredibly cool walking around with my brothers. My tica-ness was undeniable. Truly. We talked about school and what we want to do with our lives. Kevin wants to study Ecology and be a guide like Marta's doing. Keilor wants to be a pro soccer player and dancer. Just when I started to feel the panting and sweating coming on from climbing the stupid hill, Kevin grabbed my elbow and steered me inside the orange gate. We were stopping for fresh-baked donuts and coffee. Why the heck didn't they let me in on this secret earlier? It's so much better this way: stopping for snacks halfway up the hill. It's the LLC reward system! This is how I function best. My fam should know this about me by now. No matter. The donuts were amazing. They were warm and dripping with homemade icing and pretty much perfect in every way. Kevin tried to scare me and said "No don't eat that!" when I grabbed one but I am becoming immune to his bromas. We finished our snack and continued on to the Ecolodge. We picked up two more boys on the road because they wanted to use the internet too. I assume that they are related to my fam because everyone is related here, but I don't know for sure. The little one's name was Andre and he was like 7 and probably the most precious boy that I have ever met in my life. He asked Kevin if Kevin would be his friend on Hi5. Hi5 is the tico Facebook. A 7 year old with a Facebook.. Madness. But I was just like "aww" because that's what I said after everything that came out of the poor boy's mouth. He was just too cute. We got to campus and the internet wasn't working on the computers in the library. Oops. I got my laptop out of storage for Kevin to use, and read a Spanish National Geographic while the other boys played on the computers. So let's just take a moment to meditate on the fact that I totally had a tico posse today. I am awesome. Guam, if you will.

After Kevin finished the five of us started to walk back, but Andre wanted to play foosball so we made our way over to the perezoso. The four boys started to play and I took a seat. Kevin was like "what are you doing? Come here." I told him no gracias--foosball is not my game. He wouldn't have it, so I ended up playing. Ticos are amazing at all forms of soccer. It's ridiculous. I was intimidated playing with boys less than half my age, but it ended up being so fun. And I scored twice! Afterwards, Kevin said that I wasn't bad at all. I was like "really? Thanks..." And Keilor chimed in and said, "yeah seriously you're better than..." Then we all started laughing because he couldn't finish the sentence. Keilor loves cracking jokes. He is really into the putting a finger on your shirt then flicking your nose when you look down. My father also went through this phase for about 15 years, so I am pretty much immune to that too. He did get me with the you have something in your hair, which ends with him calling me a monkey. Good times.

We got back to the house at like 6 and everyone was home. The padres had a surprise for us: a new puppy! They named him Sabache. He looks just like Sassy and apparently Sassy tried to eat him so he's sleeping inside tonight. Kevin is really cute with the dogs. This family freaking loves animals. I'm down. The cat doesn't even bother me anymore.

Then more wonderful surprises: for dinner, we had pizza and Coke! It was amazing. Then we all settled around the TV for Bailando por un Sueno: Costa Rica v. Panama. Mi madre fixed jello and powdered milk for dessert. I thought it sounded gross too when Tia described it a couple weeks back, but it was really delicious. In a strange way, but delicious no less. Leo came over because he and mi madre are bff. I think it was his birthday because mi madre gave him chocolates which he shared with all of us. Bailando por un Sueno was pretty good, except it ended in a tie. Weak sauce. It was fun criticizing all of the contestants in Spanish with the fam. We went to bed early because the boys have school in the morning at the crack of dawn. Tonight all us kiddies said goodnight through the walls. So Brady Bunch.

Other fun facts:
-Kevin thinks it's funny to mumble and talk really quickly so that I don't understand what he's saying. It's not really funny.
-The bugs no longer attack me at night. Slash I don't notice them anymore.
-Ticos curse in English. It's pretty much the cutest thing ever when mi padre busts out with a "shit" or the like.

peace love and the brady bunch
