sup peeps.

I just read an email from meems that put me in a scatterbrained mood so I apologize in advance if this post induces a seizure for anyone.

Mi padre eats chicken feet. Like passes right on over the rice, beans, and normal edible chicken parts, and eats the feet. 4 of them in one sitting. They looked like they had been fried because they were kind of dripping grease. I tried not to stare too much, but I couldn't help myself. He made a small pile of cartilage on the side of his plate. Barf.

Kathy has eaten duck feet. Duck feet soup, specifically. In China. Figures.

Cayman eats bugs at her homestay. Not of her on volition, but because that is what her mother serves her. In her juice, in her pineapple jelly, in her sugar. She thought the ones in her juice were seeds at first. Sad times when she found out they had wings. The jelly and sugar bugs were not functioning under any sort of facade, though. You can't really mistake a crawling chigger for anything but its nasty self.

Cayman also eats fajitas for breakfast. And leftovers from dinner. And a big fat steak.

Last night I slept for 12 hours. 12. What. Last night I discovered this sheet that I can put on top of the lace sheet that's over my window. Dangerous. I passed out at 7:30 because the fam was watching a movie in Spanish and I couldn't will myself to translate, and then I didn't wake up til 7:30 this morning. Yikes.

Headwraps are amazing inventions. They are also enablers of bad hygiene, which is really bad for Sarah. I wore mine today after an extended period of not showering. I will spare you the details.

Ann's parents came this weekend, loaded with goodies. They are really really great. They brought Reeses, M&Ms, Peanut M&Ms, Snickers, Dove Dark Chocolate, and Season 2 of One Tree Hill. Just necessities. You know.

Tonight is our last night at our homestay. Sad times. Good thing I am going back in a couple of weeks to be with my amazing fam.

Tess is really pumped that this is her last night at Aidee's. Apparently Aidee is crazy. And hates homosexuals with a fiery, fiery passion. And wants to hook Tess (18) up with her 29-year-old son. Yikes.

Oh I never posted about our Friday adventures. Our first legit group outing. Except Geovanny was our substitute Tia at dinner. Whatever. First we went to this crazy delicious Italian restaurant. We stuffed our faces with bread, pizza, wine, and ice cream until we wanted to die, and then went dancing at Bar Amigo. Cayman is definitely the dancer of the group. She is such a rockstar. Oh my gosh you don't even know. All of us crazy gringas went out and got our freak on while all the locals watched [and pointed and laughed]. Then the actual meringue/ salsa/ cumbia came. Sarah coaxed Jeff onto the dance floor and he was just loving life. Dean and Kathy peaced out before we even got there. Beeotches.

Mi madre is afraid of frogs. I discovered this last night when a frog jumped into the house and she covered her head with a blanket. Then, to her horror, the frog jumped all the way into her bedroom. It was quite the fiasco at the Garro-Cruz household.

Yesterday I felt really sick. It was really depressing because I was sick for the first distribution of chocolate goodness. I really wanted to cry. I think it was from being stuffed up in the stupid library for 3 hours in the morning. It was our morning of involuntary volunteer work. We just sat in this dank little shack all morning sorting through Spanish books and revitalizing our Dewey Decimal System skillz. Kill me.

The rain is relentless. I had to walk home in it yesterday. Like legit torrential downpour. I got home and had to ring out my shorts before I walked in the house. And that was with my rain jacket and umbrella. Ridiculousness.

This morning mi madre made me gallo pinto and plantains and coffee.
Last night Kevin made his freaking delicious spaghetti sauce.
Yesterday for lunch I barely stomached my rice and pureed beans.
For breakfast yesterday I had coffee and cheese empanadas. That may have been the beginning of my stomach's demise.
For dinner on Saturday I had a FAT plate of rice, beans, and chicken. I barely made a dent in it. Mi padre told me it was dangerous to eat when I am not hungry. Question mark?

Last night someone called the house and spoke English. I know this because mi padre spit out a fat slew of Spanglish. I was loving it. He asked me why I was smiling and I told him that his Spanglish made me very very happy.

Some rando stopped me on the road this morning to chat. He just wanted to talk about where I was going and who I was living with and all that. After a sufficient number of awkward silences, I told him hasta luego. Weirdo.

My toes are freezing. I have been SO cold all day. Ms Nash always said I had bad circulation. That's why she made me wear gloves before performances like a freak.

We are writing odes in poetry. I think I'm going to write an ode to Salsa Lizano. Or maybe to gallo pinto.
