This morning's breakfast made up for the weak sauce we were served for breakfast yesterday. Fat bowl of huevos, gallo pinto with natilla, wheat toast with guava jam, frutas, and delicious coffee. Legit.
We had a guest speaker in Ecology today. It was Jackie, who came down here to help out with a field trip for Diana and Milton's Ecology program but is still hanging around for some reason with her hubby Paul. Jackie is probably the bubbliest woman I have ever met in my life. Every sentence is punctuated with a fit of giggles and flushed red cheeks. She is very loud and seems to be madly in love with the sound of her own voice. She is also ridiculously intelligent as it turns out, and highly respected in the science community. She played us a clip of her being interviewed on NPR for a study she conducted on how poison ivy is being affected by global warming. Rockstar alert.
When I got my tea before Espanol, I saw that they had panqueques out in the pan basket. We were not served panqueques for breakfast this morning, or yesterday morning.. Questionable, indeed. Questionable enough for me to hesitate for all of three seconds. Then I ate two.
For lunch we had a delicious ensalada full of tomatoes, cucumbers, raisins, walnuts, and FLAVORED CHEESE! What a treat. We also had veggies and rice and beans and a bowl of sausage.. Not so much on the sausage, but all other things get my approval.
After lunch I tried to nap because I was really tired. I failed. This is the second time this has happened and that is not okay. I'm thinking about forcing myself to stay up late tonight just so I can get a good, satisfying nap in tomorrow.
This afternoon I had English lessons with Susan and Jennifer. Our second to last lesson. Sad times.. kind of. As much as I love them, I am really sick and tired of being a crappy teacher and feeling like I am just wasting my time and theirs for an hour every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. The lesson actually went well today, which is surprising because Tess and I didn't technically have a lesson plan made up. So we winged it, and went over entertainment vocabulary. Then Jennifer sang the theme song from her favorite telenovela. She was incredible. She freaking belted it and just rocked it right there in the comedor. I was floored. Then we read a children's book out loud to practice pronunciation and such, and before we knew it class was over. They were sad when we told them Thursday is our last class, which was cute. I really do love them.
There were so many people at dinner tonight. We have this new group on campus that have been in Panama for the past two months on their study abroad, and are in Costa Rica for the next month. Pretty sweet. Plus the middle aged prissies are still hanging around. It was a pasta night, which is always great. Pasta and rice and veggies and ensalada and some red sauce with onions and chicken. Then for dessert: CINNAMON ROLLS. They were so good. They were kind of like cinnamon roll cookies, if you can imagine. No hot chocolate though. Lame.
Now I have a book discussion to prepare for, Spanish homework to do, a Spanish presentation to start, and a couple of articles to read for Ecology tomorrow. AWESOME.
peace love and questionable panqueques
